Technitium MAC Address Changer allows you to change Media Access Control (MAC) Address of your Network Interface Card (NIC) irrespective to your NIC manufacturer or its driver. It has a very simple user interface and provides ample information regarding each NIC in the machine. Every NIC has a MAC address hard coded in its circuit by the manufacturer. This hard coded MAC address is used by windows drivers to access Ethernet Network (LAN). This tool can set a new MAC address to your NIC, bypassing the original hard coded MAC address. Technitium MAC Address Changer is a must tool in every security professionals tool box. Technitium MAC Address Changer is coded in Visual Basic 6.0.

There are some famous, commercial tools available in the market for USD 19.99 to as much as USD 2499!, but Technitium MAC Address Changer is available for FREE. We don't charge for just changing a registry value! Also knowing how this works doesn't require extensive research as some commercial tool providers claim! Read how it works (below) for more details.

Misconceptions

Many people believe MAC address, which is hard coded in the NIC card cannot be changed. Yes, its hard coded but, it can be changed only by removing the flash chip from the NIC card, re-programming it with new MAC address and putting it back on the card. But this software does not change the hard coded MAC address. Technitium MAC Address Changer instructs Windows(TM) to use MAC address it has specified in windows registry. If no MAC address is specified to Windows(TM), it uses the hard coded one in the NIC to construct Ethernet or IEEE network frames (or simply packets), which are used at OSI layer 2. Also Windows(TM) changes MAC address of your NIC when Windows(TM) Network Bridge is enabled. The first number in the MAC address of the NIC added in the Network Bridge is set to 0x02. Changing MAC address of Network Bridge is not possible in Windows(TM) using this software.

How Does It Work ?

This software just writes a value into the windows registry. When the Network Adapter Device is enabled, windows searches for the registry value 'NetworkAddress' in the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1- 08002bE10318}\[ID of NIC e.g. 0001]. If a value is present, windows will use it as MAC address, if not, windows will use the hard coded manufacturer provided MAC address. Simple? Some Network Adapter drivers have this facility built-in. It can be found in the Advance settings tab in the Network Adapter's Device properties in Windows Device Manager.

How To Change MAC Address

1. Starting MAC address changer will list all available network adapters.

2. Select the adapter you want to change the MAC address. You will get the details of your selection below.

3. Click Change MAC button, enter new MAC address and click Change Now button and confirm changes you made when prompted.

4. To restore the original MAC address of the network adapter, select the adapter, click Change MAC button and then click Original MAC button and confirm changes you made when prompted.

NOTE: This tool cannot change MAC address of Microsoft Network Bridge. Network Bridge will automatically use the original MAC address of the first NIC added into bridge with the first octet of MAC address set to 0x02.

Depending on how your computer is set up, you may see a few security messages before installation begins.
  1. Where you see a company or publisher listed in a security message, make sure the company name is Microsoft Corporation. If so, then it is safe to click Run, Continue, or Allow.
  2. The installer will open. Select the programs you want to install*, and then click Next.
*Previously installed Windows Live programs will also be updated if you don't have the latest versions installed yet.
  3. Sit back and relax, or do other things on your computer while you wait. Installation shouldn't take more than a few minutes on a broadband connection.
  4. When it's done, you'll find your new programs in the Windows Live folder on the Windows Start menu.

Get Messenger, or all these programs—they’re free!

Clicking "Download" means you agree to the Microsoft service agreement and privacy statement. The download may include updates to Windows Live programs you already have. You’ll get future updates to these and other Microsoft programs from Microsoft Update. Learn more
If your installation doesn’t start right away, check the system requirements, or click Try again.
Trying again downloads a standalone installer to your computer. This takes a little while, but may work better, depending on your connection settings.

Well, almost all of the images you'll find in your computer will most probably be raster images (Unless you vectorized them).
Raster images are pixel-based and scaling a raster image causes it to appear blurry or pixelated. Vector images, on the other hand, are made up of geometric shapes such as lines, circles and curves. This means vector images won't blur when they are scaled.

Vectormagic is a free online service that converts raster images into vector images.
To transform images, you'll have to upload the files to Vectormagic & follow the easy to use instructions to get the desired result. Larger images are automatically scaled down to 1 megapixel to avoid server overload.
You can upload files in JPG, PNG, TIFF, GIF & BMP formats. The vectorized images can be downloaded in PNG, SVG & EPS formats.

Vectormagic is created & provided by Stanford University. According to their comparisons, Vectormagic seems to perform even better than commercial auto-tracing softwares like Adobe Live Trace & Corel PowerTRACE.

Yes, this happens most of the time with me; especially as I keep many programs, folders and documents open at the same time. A mis click and dammit, the wrong program is terminated.
And I guess situations like this maybe familiar to some of you too.

Wouldn't it be nice if there is some quick and easy way to re-open the file or application you closed accidentally? Yeah! You can always open the closed program like you usually do, but a quicker way to do it doesn't hurt..

Recovering the closed file or program is possible. This is where a program called 'GoneIn60s' comes in handy. This program works by delaying the shutdown of a particular application. When you close a file or program, GoneIn60s gives you the option to recover it.

GoneIn60s sits in the system tray of Windows. To recover any recently closed application, just right-click GoneIn60s and select the program you wish to recover.
However, a program can only be recovered within 60 seconds, as it the default timeout period. The timeout can however be changed. Additionally, you don't have to install this software; just download and run it.

RapidShare is a service that allows you to share files with others; you can upload files to there service, send out links, and then others can download the files. But if you are downloading a file from RapidShare and you are not a registered member, you'll be forced to wait 45 seconds before the download begins while they try to convince you to become a member. This 45 second wait can be bypassed rather easily.

Click on the download link that is sent to you and get to the RapidShare site. Once they tell you that you have to wait 45 seconds and the counter starts, copy this into the address bar of your browser and press Enter:

javascript:alert(c=0)

You'll get a javascript alert panel, click OK and your download will start immediately Kaisa..

Make your documents talk! There are tons of tools available to do that, but I haven't seen any software of web service that converts Word documents, PDF files, Web Pages, RSS feeds and simple text files to audio files; All in One!

That is exactly what SpokenText does! What is SpokenText?
SpokenText is a Website that can be used to convert documents to audio files. The converted audio files can then be downloaded as mp3 files or iPod (.m4b) files. All this for Free.

There are five voices to choose from. Three English, one German and the other French. Yes! three languages are supported at present.
Users also get the option to adjust the words per minute and volume prior to recording a file.
Another nice feature is the ability to record via Email.

Now for the cons -
The website seems to be offline too often. Looks like that has been fixed at the time of writing this post.
Recoding a file takes a bit of time.
Even the file names are recorded, which I don't think is required.

My final note on this site; Good, but can be better!
