Decimal

We count in what is called the decimal counting system. Decimal has 10 digits which are 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. Decimal is also called base 10 because it has 10 digits. The reason why people started counting in decimal is because it has 10 digits and we have 10 fingers and people used to use their fingers for counting.

Binary

Binary uses only 2 digits which are 0 and 1 and is also called base 2. Binary is what computers use for counting because inside a computer you get things that are like little switches that can be either off or on(0 or 1). A subscripted 2 is placed after a binary number so that it can be recognised as being a binary number like in the following example:

We already know that when we count we add 1 to the current number each time to get the next number. If we start at 0 and then add 1 we get 1. Now we have to add 1 to 1 but we have run out of digits because there are only 2 digits in binary. When we get to 9 in decimal and add 1 we first change the number to a 0 and then add 1 to the imaginary 0 to the left of it which gives us 10. If we apply this to binary then we change the 1 to 0 and then increase the imaginary 0 to the left of it which gives us 10 but this 10 is actually 2. The following sequence shows you how to count to 5 in binary:

Hexadecimal

The word hexadecimal is made up of 2 parts which are hex(6) and decimal(10). If you add 6 and 10 together you get 16 and that is how many digits there are in hexadecimal. Hexadecimal is sometimes called hex or base 16. To get 16 digits we have to use letters of the alphabet and those 16 digits are 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F. Hexadecimal is often used instead of binary numbers because just 2 hexadecimal digits can make the same numbers as 8 binary digits which in turn make up a byte. A subscripted 16 is used to show that a number is hexadecimal:

Octal

Octal uses 8 digits which are 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and is also called base 8. We use a subscripted 8 to show that a number is octal:

The highest number must be greater than the number you want to convert.

Now divide the number to be converted by the number starting on the left. Write how many times the number divides into it underneath the number and then write your remainder on top of the next number to be divided. You then divide by the remainder each time after that.

Google Music Streaming : Launching Soon?

Tonight (February 24th) is the night of the Google Android Honeycomb event, where we will get our first truly back to front view of the new OS. There are plenty of exciting features to talk about here, but one of the items that might be revealed is the Google Music Library. According to Android Community, who cites unnamed insider sources, tonight will be the night that the library is opened for business.

What exactly is the Google Music Library? There are at least three major facets. First, we have the actual music player itself. We know for a fact that this is coming out, since early debugging versions have been discovered and even released to the public for the Android 2.3 smartphone line. It may be that Honeycomb has a different interface, but in either case, the new browser is packed with features.

Second, we have the “OTA download library.” Discussed at last year’s Google I/O conference, the concept here is that you can purchase a song from a large, cloud-based music storehouse. That song can then be transferred to your phone over the air, pushed to your PC library, and otherwise attached to your Google account. This is, according to AC’s unnamed sources, going to be released alongside a revamped web-based Android marketplace.

And third, we have the “full library streaming” feature. This feature would allow users to connect their phone or tablet to their computer, streaming any song that’s currently located in their computer’s music library. This, more than the other features, is in question, partially due to simply logistics and partially due to the complex legal boundaries of allowing live music streams.

We’ll find out for sure in the next 24 hours, so stay tuned for further updates. Whatever the details, there’s little doubt that Google will make quite a showing during their official Honeycomb press event.

If the domain addresses (such as us6.macrovpn.com) are not workable, you can try to the IP addresses (such as 74.86.150.154) as server name, and if one VPN server is not workable, you can try another one.

The MacroVPN website supports English, Spanish, Chinese and many other languages.

How Blu-ray Discs Work

In 1997, a new technology emerged that brought digital sound and video into homes all over the world. It was called DVD, and it revolutionized the movie industry.

The industry is set for yet another revolution with the introduction of Blu-ray Discs (BD) in 2006. With their high storage capacity, Blu-ray discs can hold and play back large quantities of high-definition video and audio, as well as photos, data and other digital content.

In this article, I'll explains how the Blu-ray disc works and how it was developed, and we'll see how it stacks up against some other new digital video formats on the horizon.

A current, single-sided, standard DVD can hold 4.7 GB (gigabytes) of information. That's about the size of an average two-hour, standard-definition movie with a few extra features. But a high-definition movie, which has a much clearer image, takes up about five times more bandwidth and therefore requires a disc with about five times more storage. As TV sets and movie studios make the move to high definition, consumers are going to need playback systems with a lot more storage capacity.

Blu-ray is the next-generation digital video disc. It can record, store and play back high-definition video and digital audio, as well as computer data. The advantage to Blu-ray is the sheer amount of information it can hold:

A single-layer Blu-ray disc, which is roughly the same size as a DVD, can hold up to 27 GB of data -- that's more than two hours of high-definition video or about 13 hours of standard video.
A double-layer Blu-ray disc can store up to 50 GB, enough to hold about 4.5 hours of high-definition video or more than 20 hours of standard video. And there are even plans in the works to develop a disc with twice that amount of storage.

How to Use Microsoft Office Outlook Connector

If you are still using Hotmail but would prefer to access your email from a desktop client, then you might be interested to know that Microsoft has released a connector that will allow you to send and receive Hotmail or Office Live Mail through Outlook 2003 or 2007.

This is especially helpful for those of us that maintain a hotmail account but don’t like to ever check it because we don’t use it all that often.

Installation

Make sure that Outlook is closed, and then download and install the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector. Open Outlook and you’ll immediately be prompted with the settings dialog.

Enter in your account details into this screen, and then close the dialog. You’ll be prompted to restart Outlook again.

Once you’ve restarted, you’ll now see your Hotmail account in the list of mail accounts, and you can send/receive to download your messages.

If you want to send email with the hotmail account, you’ll notice a new drop-down for Account, which will let you switch the account you are sending the email as.

Hopefully this will save you some of the pain of the slow-loading hotmail website.

How to create a system folder in My Computer

System folder like My Document which appears in My computer are special folders which appear can not be deleted. Now if you want to create something like that, a folder which cannot be deleted!!!! . Here is how you do it to create a folder which cannot be deleted!!. It should work both in XP and VISTA.

However a word of caution, If you don’t know about registry, either back up or don’t try this. I am not sure how to create a direct script for this so be cautious.

Step 1: Create a Unique Key

Open registry with “regedit” command on run window.
Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\. Then right click and create a new key with value as {FD4DF9E0-E3DE-11CE-BFCF-ABCD1DE12345}
Now set the default value of this key to the folder name you want to use. Now your path will look like ( I will call this as parent key throughout the discussion) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{FD4DF9E0-E3DE-11CE-BFCF-ABCD1DE12345}

Step 2: Add Custom Icon to the folder

Now create a sub key under parent key.
Name it as “DefaultIcon”.
Set the default value of this to the path of the icon image you want to use.
If you dont specify your icon, system will take default icon.

Step 3: Adding attributes

Under parent key create another key with name as “InprocServer32″
Set the default value as “shell32.dll”
Again at the same level create another folder as “ThreadingModel” and set its value as “Apartment”
Same way create another key (under parent level) at the same level with structure as \Shell\My Folder\Command
Set the default value here as “explorer /root,c:\Blog Data”
This has to be same which you gave when you created the first key.

Step 4 Adding Handlers

Under parent key, create another key as \ShellEx\PropertySheetHandlers\ {FD4DF9E0-E3DE-11CE-BFCF-ABCD1DE12345}
Similar way another key is to added to parent key as “Shell Folder”
In this right click and create new binary value called as “Attributes” with value as 00 00 00 00.

Step 5: Settings to place in My Computer

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
Then to \CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\
Add the parent key which in this case is {FD4DF9E0-E3DE-11CE-BFCF-ABCD1DE12345}

Thats it, You are done. Try this carefully and I am sure there wont be any problem. I missed the icon thing somehow, but will sure fix it. Till then if you find a fix do tell me.

How to fix the icon problem with system folder :

As per the icon issue, I had the same issue then realized it was just looking for the icon index at the end of the file path and is accomplished with a comma and your index number. If your using an .ico file the index will be 0 otherwise you’ll have to determine the index number if your using a dll or exe with multiple icons. i.e for an .ico file c:\path\Icon.ico

Click the Advanced tab.
Under Performance, click Settings.
Click the Advanced tab.
Under Virtual memory, click Change.
Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file (virtual memory) settings that you want to change. In almost every case, this will be your C: drive.

If you regularly search for specific content in data files on your multigigabyte hard disk, the Indexing Service will definitely save you time and therefore can be considered a necessary service. In fact, I have literally thousands of articles in Word documents, and I’ve discovered that searching for content with the Indexing Service turns up results hundreds of times faster than using a standard search engine.

Furthermore, like a screen saver, the Indexing Service is designed to perform its intensive hard-disk indexing operations when the computer is idle. The service pauses whenever it senses activity from the keyboard or mouse, so it will never drag down system performance when you’re using your computer.

Of course, like all tools in the Windows operating system, the Indexing Service’s default settings can be tweaked in order to improve performance. For example, in its default configuration, the service is designed to search through all the files on your entire hard disk as it performs its indexing operation. However, the service is much more efficient if you redirect the indexing operations toward the directories, or folders, in which you store your data files.

In this blog post, we’ll show you how to redirect the focus of the indexing operations and discuss other ways you can configure the Indexing Service so that it performs more efficiently.

How it works

Let’s begin with a brief look at how the Indexing Service works. To provide such fast turnaround time, the service actually performs a comprehensive search operation during the indexing phase, when it goes through the files on your hard disk and gathers detailed information on each file. As it does, it creates a catalog, or database, of the results. When you run a search operation, you’re actually searching through the database rather than searching through the files on your hard disk.

To determine what types of files to search for and how to search them, the Indexing Service uses a set of preconfigured filters. By default, the service comes with filters for HTML files, text files, and all files created by Microsoft Office, including e-mail. The filter also allows the service to isolate the meaningful text from other content in the document, such as header and formatting information.

In addition to using filters to determine how to search a file, the service has a list of noise words — words that don’t need to be indexed. Words in the noise list include prepositions, common verbs, conjunctions, pronouns, individual letters, and numbers.

The service also gathers other pertinent information about the file. For example, it indexes standard information, such as file size, time and date stamp, and file type. More detailed information about a document includes word count, author, or even the last time the document was printed.

Works best on NTFS

While the Indexing Service will run on any hard disk regardless of the file system, it runs best on NTFS volumes, where it can take advantage of several advanced NTFS features. The most beneficial of these features is the NTFS Change Journal.

As its name implies, the Change Journal keeps a constantly updated log of any file deletions, additions, or modifications to all folders on the NTFS volume. The Indexing Service can consult with the Change Journal to help determine when new files have been added or when existing files have been modified; it can then proceed to update the index.

As you can imagine, a database of all the files on your hard disk could become extremely large. To deal with the size issue, the service stores its database using NTFS Sparse File, a feature that stores files in a way that requires much less disk space than if they were stored on a FAT-formatted hard disk.

Taking a look around

Now that you have a good idea of how the Indexing Service works, let’s take a look at its default configuration via the Indexing Service console.

To launch this console, go to the Run dialog box on the Start menu, type Ciadv.msc in the Open text box, and click OK. Once the console is up and running, select the Show/Hide Console Tree button on the toolbar to show the console tree. You’ll then see the screen shown in Figure A.

By default, the Indexing Service is configured to index the entire hard disk.

Select the Directories folder in the tree to see a list of all the directories the service is configured to monitor. While these default settings ensure that data files on this computer will be included in the catalog, it forces the service to spend a lot of time searching through folders containing files that might not have the data you want to index.

For example, the C:\Windows folder on this particular system contains close to 17,000 files, which would take a lot of unnecessary time and disk space to index. The C:\Documents and Settings folder comes much closer to the data I’d like to index; however, this folder contains nearly 34,000 files, many of which aren’t data files.

Redirecting the indexing operations

To make the Indexing Service as efficient as possible, you should redirect the indexing operations to the My Documents folder, which contains all your data files. This will make the service much more efficient.

First, delete all the current entries in the Directories list by right-clicking on each and selecting the Delete command from the menu. As you do, the Indexing Service will prompt you to confirm the deletion.

To add an entry for the My Documents folder, go to the Action menu and select the New | Directory command. In the Add Directory dialog box, select the Browse button and type the path to the My Documents folder into the Path text box, as shown in Figure B. Then, click OK.

You can redirect the Indexing Service so that it focuses on the folders containing your data files.

At this point, minimize the Indexing Service console, launch Windows Explorer, and locate the My Documents folder. Now, right-click on the My Documents folder to access the Properties dialog box. Click the Advanced button. In the Advanced Attributes dialog box, shown in Figure C, select the For Fast Searching, Allow Indexing Service to Index This Folder check box, and click OK.

To ensure that the folders and files are ready for the indexing operations, you need to set the Index attribute.

To continue, click OK in the My Documents Properties dialog box. You’ll then see the Confirm Attribute Changes dialog box, shown in Figure D. Make sure the Apply Changes to This Folder, Subfolders and Files check box is selected and click OK.

You’ll be prompted to confirm that you want to set the Index attribute for all subfolders and files.

Return to the Indexing Service console and select the Indexing Service on Local Machine folder in the tree. You’ll then see the main System catalog, as shown in Figure E. Now click the Start Indexing button on the toolbar.

To initiate the indexing operation, just click the Start Indexing button on the toolbar.

The Indexing Service will begin the indexing operation, and you should leave your system site idle for a while. Ideally, you’ll allow the service to run while you’re at lunch or even overnight in order to give it time to build the index. While the indexing operation is running, the service will keep you apprised of its status, as shown in Figure F.

While the indexing operation is ongoing, the Status column will show that it is scanning.

When the indexing operation is complete, the Status column will list the operation as Started, as shown in Figure G. You can then close the Indexing Service, launch the Search tool, and begin searching your indexed files.

Once indexing is complete, the Status column will indicate that the index is ready to be searched.

Adding file types

As I mentioned, by default the Indexing Service comes with filters for HTML files, text files, and all files created by Microsoft Office. If you want to index other types of files, you can find and install custom content filters, also called IFilters. Because Microsoft’s SharePoint Server also uses IFilters, you can find them for a lot of common file types.

For example, you can download and install a free PDF IFilter from the IT solutions page on the Adobe Web site. You can download and install a free Visio IFilter from the Downloads page on the Microsoft Web site. From the 4-Share Web site, you can download a 30-day evaluation copy of an IFilter for ZIP files. You can also purchase a number of IFilters on the IFilterShop Web site.

Adding unknown extensions

You can configure the Indexing Service to index files with unknown extensions. In this case, the service will analyze the content of the files and try to locate pertinent information.

To do so, run the Indexing Service console as described earlier. Select the Show/Hide Console Tree button on the toolbar to show the console tree. Right-click on the Indexing Service on Local Machine folder in the tree and select the Properties command. In the Indexing Service on Local Machine Properties dialog box, select the Index Files with Unknown Extensions check box, as shown in Figure H, and click OK.

Misconceptions

Many people believe MAC address, which is hard coded in the NIC card cannot be changed. Yes, its hard coded but, it can be changed only by removing the flash chip from the NIC card, re-programming it with new MAC address and putting it back on the card. But this software does not change the hard coded MAC address. Technitium MAC Address Changer instructs Windows(TM) to use MAC address it has specified in windows registry. If no MAC address is specified to Windows(TM), it uses the hard coded one in the NIC to construct Ethernet or IEEE network frames (or simply packets), which are used at OSI layer 2. Also Windows(TM) changes MAC address of your NIC when Windows(TM) Network Bridge is enabled. The first number in the MAC address of the NIC added in the Network Bridge is set to 0x02. Changing MAC address of Network Bridge is not possible in Windows(TM) using this software.

How Does It Work ?

This software just writes a value into the windows registry. When the Network Adapter Device is enabled, windows searches for the registry value 'NetworkAddress' in the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1- 08002bE10318}\[ID of NIC e.g. 0001]. If a value is present, windows will use it as MAC address, if not, windows will use the hard coded manufacturer provided MAC address. Simple? Some Network Adapter drivers have this facility built-in. It can be found in the Advance settings tab in the Network Adapter's Device properties in Windows Device Manager.

How To Change MAC Address

1. Starting MAC address changer will list all available network adapters.

2. Select the adapter you want to change the MAC address. You will get the details of your selection below.

3. Click Change MAC button, enter new MAC address and click Change Now button and confirm changes you made when prompted.

4. To restore the original MAC address of the network adapter, select the adapter, click Change MAC button and then click Original MAC button and confirm changes you made when prompted.

NOTE: This tool cannot change MAC address of Microsoft Network Bridge. Network Bridge will automatically use the original MAC address of the first NIC added into bridge with the first octet of MAC address set to 0x02.

Recover Accidently Closed Windows Programs

Yes, this happens most of the time with me; especially as I keep many programs, folders and documents open at the same time. A mis click and dammit, the wrong program is terminated.
And I guess situations like this maybe familiar to some of you too.

Wouldn't it be nice if there is some quick and easy way to re-open the file or application you closed accidentally? Yeah! You can always open the closed program like you usually do, but a quicker way to do it doesn't hurt..

Recovering the closed file or program is possible. This is where a program called 'GoneIn60s' comes in handy. This program works by delaying the shutdown of a particular application. When you close a file or program, GoneIn60s gives you the option to recover it.

GoneIn60s sits in the system tray of Windows. To recover any recently closed application, just right-click GoneIn60s and select the program you wish to recover.
However, a program can only be recovered within 60 seconds, as it the default timeout period. The timeout can however be changed. Additionally, you don't have to install this software; just download and run it.

Make your documents talk! There are tons of tools available to do that, but I haven't seen any software of web service that converts Word documents, PDF files, Web Pages, RSS feeds and simple text files to audio files; All in One!

That is exactly what SpokenText does! What is SpokenText?
SpokenText is a Website that can be used to convert documents to audio files. The converted audio files can then be downloaded as mp3 files or iPod (.m4b) files. All this for Free.

There are five voices to choose from. Three English, one German and the other French. Yes! three languages are supported at present.
Users also get the option to adjust the words per minute and volume prior to recording a file.
Another nice feature is the ability to record via Email.

Now for the cons -
The website seems to be offline too often. Looks like that has been fixed at the time of writing this post.
Recoding a file takes a bit of time.
Even the file names are recorded, which I don't think is required.

I don’t like Firefox constantly updating the version or the Add-ons all by itself without my knowledge. I like to disable this. You can enable or disable this feature with these steps.

1. Click Tools > Options.

2. Click on the Advanced option along the top.

3. Click on the Update tab.

4. Uncheck the boxes under Automatically check for updates to: to disable the automatic updates. Check them if you wish for them to be enabled.

Alternately you may choose to select the Ask me what I want to do option under the When updates to Firefox are found: section.

Install and Configure Outlook Connector

Step 1

Close out of Outlook if it's currently running. In fact, it's a good idea to close all running applications when installing new software.

Confirm that your Hotmail account is a Windows Live account. If it's not, you can either open a new account or upgrade your existing account. You can do this by simply choosing the "Join Windows Live Hotmail" link that appears when you log in to your email account.

This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to configure your Gmail account on Outlook Express so that you access it using POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3); Or in layman's terms, how you can receive your Gmail emails and store them on your system.

The POP access was allowed on Gmail accounts almost from the start of the service... and the best thing... it's free!

Step 1 - Enable the POP option at your Gmail account

Now click on the Forwarding and POP tab.

In the POP Download section, you can enable POP for all email messages or only for mail that you will receive henceforth.

From a drop down menu, you can select what you want to do with the message once it is downloaded to Outlook Express on your system. I suggest that you let it lie on your Gmail account or archive it since there is so much of space available on Gmail.

Click on the Save Changes button when you are done.

Step 2 - Configuring the Outlook Express Email client

Start Outlook Express. Go to Tool -> Accounts.

In the Internet Accounts pop-up window, click on Add -> Mail

You now need to give a name to this account. I'm going to put WebDevelopersNotes as the name (my email address is webdevelopersnotes[at]gmail.com). Click on the Next button.

You will now be asked your Gmail email address. Be sure to enter this correctly and then click on the Next button.

The next step is to provide the Outlook Express email client the incoming and outgoing email server details for Gmail. These are:
Incoming Email Server: pop.gmail.com
Outgoing Email Server: smtp.gmail.com

Make sure that you have selected the POP3 option in the My incoming email server is. Click on the Next button when done.

We will now enter the username and password of your Gmail account in Outlook Express. Click on the Remember password checkbox if it's not already checked. Click on the Next button when done.

By this time you have given all the information to Outlook Express to set up your Gmail account on the program and so you get a congratulatory message. Click on the Finish button.

However, we are not done yet and need to configure a few more things.

Double-click on the Gmail email account you have just configured in Outlook Express. You can also select it and click on the "Properties" button. Refer image below.

The "Properties window" is now displayed. Go to the Advanced tab and check the checkbox in front of This server requires a secure connection (SSL). The Incoming mail (POP3): field automatically changes to a value of 995. Click on the Apply button when done. Refer image below esp. the portion marked in the red box.

It is now time for you to test the Gmail account configured in Outlook Express. If you had selected the option of enabling POP at Gmail for only new messages, send a test message to your Gmail account from another email address.

Youtube Videos which are also used on sites like Myspace or embedded into blog posts sometimes take ages to load which results in freezes and stuttering which can only be solved by pausing the playback until the video is fully loaded. There is a possible way that would accelerate the download of the youtube video by up to five times. This is done by the free software Speedbit Video Accelerator which builds up five different connections to the video server to speed up the streaming of the video. This method does not help if you are already using the maximum bandwidth available of course.

Each request for a youtube video is routed through the Speedbit servers which open five new connections to the video server offering the video which results in a speed increase which can be remarkable.

The service has to be running in the system tray while watching youtube videos and starts automatically whenever a new video is requested from youtube. I was not able to take a look at some of the program features that are shown at the developers website but the video acceleration is working fine.

How to Get Virtual Desktops on Windows XP

Virtual desktops are an excellent tool for anybody who likes to multitask. They allow the user to run multiple desktops simultaneously from any laptop or desktop computer, which you can switch between at the touch of a button. Each of these desktops can have its own background and have its own applications loaded.

I like to use it as an easy way to separate my business applications from my leisure ones. It doesn’t come standard in XP, but there is some perfectly safe and easy to use software out there that will give you up to 4 desktops to work with.

First, go to the Microsoft PowerToys download page, and select DeskMan.exe from the right side of the screen (the file it actually downloads will be called DeskmanPowertoySetup.exe).

Then double click the file and select “Complete” install. It usually doesn’t take very long.

Now it’s installed, so let’s test it. Go to the bottom of the screen and right click on the taskbar, then select toolbars. You’ll see there’s now an option for Desktop Manager. Click it.

This brings up the desktop manager toolbar, which integrates with your taskbar and looks like this:

You guessed it, each one of those four buttons corresponds to a different desktop. The green button on the left pulls up a view that previews all four and allows you to select between them. Right clicking on any of the buttons brings up some options to set different backgrounds for each desktop, or to assign shortcut keys for easy access.

And just like that…

You’ve got four desktops! Simply click on any of the desktops in the preview screen above to bring that one to the front. (Note there is also a way to get virtual desktops in Windows Vista, but that’s another article.)

Today, we bought PTCL’s USB EvDo device for our newly born office. We have to setup EvDo USB device, TP-Link wireless router and plan to share EvDo USB ’s internet via TP-Link wireless router, we had spent 3 hours struggling to fight with that, tryout every possible solution and at the end get a final solution, so I am going share it so that you can be get benefit from our experience.

Suppose, you have EvDo USB device, TP-Link or any other Wireless router, a PC or Laptop whose lan cabel should be plugged into Wireless router’s LAN port. You just need to follow these simple step to setup your sharing EvDo sharing with Wireless router.

Step-1: Open web admin panel of your wireless router, usually typing 192.168.1.1 in your browser will open it.

Step-2: Then give your wireless router an IP on the LAN side of 192.168.0.254 or 192.168.0.x (x is something between greater than 1 to 254), you have to think about what IP should be reserved for your router.

Step-3: Then turn off the DHCP server in the router.

Step-4: That’s all with your wireless router, do nothing with your WAN or any settings.

Step-5: Now goto your PC/laptop from where your EvDo is connected.

Step-6: Goto your Controll Panel then Network Connections.

Step-7: Right click on EvDo connection icon and select properties and goto Advance Tab.

Step-8: Check allow other users to connect through this computers connection and also checked the allow others to control the shared connection and click OK.

Step-9: When enabling ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) a windows warning message may alert you that the LAN Adapter will be set to 192.168.0.1 or something like that. It means that your LAN card’s IP address is automatically set to 192.168.0.1 with 255.255.255.0 subnet mask, please make sure you do not modify it otherwise sharing will not work. If 192.168.0.1 is not set on your LAN card’s IP settings then set this IP address by opening connection properties and IPv4 settings give it.

Step-10: Next final step, goto your laptop whome you want to connect to wireless router and use Internet. Then goto my network connections on it. Right clicked my wireless adapter and go to properties.

Then proceded to change its tcp/ip settings. Try to give an IP from range 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.253 with mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway of 192.168.0.1

Officially the folks at Redmond had said the release would be available tomorrow (May 5), and while it's not May 5 anywhere in the US at the time of this writing—hey, it's May 5 somewhere.

To download Windows 7 RC, you'll need to hit up the link below, head to the bottom of the page to select which version of Windows 7 you want (32-bit or 64-bit), select your language, and then sign in with your Windows Live account (that means you'll need to get one if you don't have one already). After that, just grab yourself a cold drink and wait. So far the download is moving swiftly for me (around 450KB/s) and should be done in just over an hour and a half. Hopefully they can keep it up, but if not, remember: This download and product keys will be available through the end of June, so you've got plenty of time.

Update: The download page—which worked just a few minutes ago and will very likely start working again in the next day (if not much sooner)—appears to have been pulled. I'm getting a "We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found" error message." My download's still going strong, but you may not have the same luck I did. Not a great start, Microsoft, but we won't hold it against you until it's officially May 5.

eople think that it is difficult to download file from torrent, I also had the same thought initially when I got my internet, but it is also true that if you want better quality then you need to share file from torrent.
There are many torrent client are available , but I personally use and also suggest others to use Utorrent to download torrent file. Initially I had to face a lot of problem in downloading torrent file, then I got a tweak or you can call it a perfect setting for Utorrent..

Here is the detail of the tutorial...

Step 1 : Open Utorrent then go to Options>Preferences>Network

1. Under ‘Port used for incomming connections‘ enter any port number. It is best to use a port number above 10000. I use 45682.

2. Randomize port each time ?torrent starts: UNCHECKED
leave this unchecked because if u have router. If you do not have a router or a firewall, and want extra security,check this option.

3. Enable UPnP port mapping (Windows Xp or later only): UNCHECKED
leave this unchecked because I have experienced it slowing down speeds. It is not needed if you manually port forward.

4. Add ?torrent to Windows Firewall exceptions (Windows XP SP2 or later only): UNCHECKED (do this only if you have windows firewall disabled)

5. Global Maximum upload rate (kb/s): [0: unlimited]: 22 (for 256k connection)

6. Protocol Encryption: ENABLED
I would recommend everyone to enable this. This can help increase speeds with many ISPs.

7. Allow incoming Legacy Connections: Checked.

Step 2 : Options>Preferences>Torrents

1. Global Maximum Number of Connections: 130 (for 256k connection)
This number should not be set too low or the number of connections made to your torrents will be limited. Setting it too high may cause too much bandwidth to be used and can cause slowdowns.
2. Maximum Number of connected peers per torrent: 70 (for 256k connection)
If you see that the peers connected to a specific torrent are exactly this number, or very close, increase this number to improve speeds.
3. Number of upload slots per torrent: 3 (for 256k connection)
This depends on how much you want to upload to other users. Do not set too low or it may affect download speeds.

4. Use additional upload slots if upload speed <90%:>Maximum number of active torrents: 2 (for 256k connection)
6. Maximum number of active downloads: 1 (for 256k connection)
7. Enable DHT Network: CHECKED, This is recommended to be checked to improve speeds. More people will be available for sharing if this is checked.
8. Enable DHT for new torrents: CHECKED
9. Enable Peer Exchange: CHECKED
10. Enable scrapping: CHECKED
11. Pre-allocate all files: CHECKED
12. Append .!ut to incomplete files: UNCHECKED

Step 3 : Options>Preferences>Advanced.

If you use Windows XP SP2, patch tcpip.sys with LvlLord’s Event ID 4226 Patcher to get better performance.

If you have a firewall…
Open up the options/preferences/settings for the firewall - usually your firewall will have an icon to click in the taskbar
Look for the keywords “allow list” or “programs”
Add the application you want to give access to the internet
Make sure to save your settings when you are done

Go to start>run>type cmd, press enter>type ipconfig, press enter
Remember both your ip address and your default gateway
Type in your default gateway into your default browser, a password prompt may come up. The default username and password are admin for my router
Under ‘Applications’ fill out one line for each p2p client you use
You need to use your ip address, the correct port range and set either tcp or udp
You can find and change the ports in the actual p2p client’s settings, just make sure they are the same in the router

Create an Invisible Folder Better Than Hiding it...!

You ever have a folder on your computer that you really dont want any one to find? You can make this folder hidden but then you have to un-hide all the folders when ever you want to find it. So how can you make a folder truly invisible? Follow these simple steps and your unmentionables will stay that way

1. Right click where ever you want the invisible folder to be and select create a new folder.

2. Right Click on the folder and hit rename. Erase the name of the folder so there is nothing there.

3. If you try to stop here windows will tell you that you need to provide a name. So to get around this… with the name field still active hold down ALT and press 0160 on the number pad (make sure Num Lock is on), release alt

You should now have a blank name with nothing but a folder next to it

4. Now click on the nameless folder and right click. Select Properties.

5. Go to the Customize tab.

6. Find and press the Change Icon button. Scroll through the icons until you find one that has no image.

4. Hit OK and you have an invisible folder!

With the invisible folder you can hide what ever undesirables you have. Be it video games at work, pictures of your family or anything else you can think of “wink”.

The folder will show up for a brief second if you put it on your desktop. For that reason it might be smart to place it inside a folder or amongst a group of folders.

Speed up Mozilla Firefox about 3-30x Faster

If your a firefox lover like me then you should try this.

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll
down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time.
When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really
speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This
means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.
Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0".
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages 2-30 times faster now.

How to Remove Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications

Windows genuine advantage notifications occur when your computer hasn't passed the validation test. The validation test can be failed due to being sold a pirated (non-genuine) copy of XP, or because you have changed your XP product key to a software-generated key, or sometimes it just happens for no reason at all. The failed validation installs three types of notifications on your computer: one on the log in screen, one log in timer, and one balloon. It also stops updates from Microsoft and disables your ability to install IE7 and Windows Media Player 11. This solution can get rid of all three notifications, even though you will still not be able to update through Windows Update. You will not be able to download things from Microsoft that requires a valid license either.

Steps

If you have only just installed Windows Genuine Advantage notifications, simply using the system restore function will remove the program. Then refuse to accept the WGA update next time Windows updates... Otherwise, proceed as detailed below. (NOTE: If you try these steps while you are in "Safe Mode," step #8 is unnecessary).
First Try the Following:
- Open a CMD Line Window by Clicking on Start ==>Run ==> type CMD and Press OK.
- Change Directory into the System32 Folder (Like Cd c:\Windows\System32)
- Open a notepad Window and type the following lines:
taskkill -IM wgatray.exe
del wgatray.exe
del wgalogon.dll
- Highlight and copy to the Clipboard the three lines above
- now Paste the the contents of the Clipboard to the CMD Window
This should kill the wgatray.exe Process from the Taskbar and imediately delete both files wgatray.exe and wgalogon.dll without the need to to go through all steps bellow.
If that does not work, then continue and follow the steps bellow
Open System32 by either A or B of the following methods:
- a)
  Click "Start", "Run", then type-in "System32". Click "Okay".
- b) Find System32 manually by clicking "Start" > "My Computer" > "(X:)" (Replacing "X" with the drive letter of the host of Windows) > "Windows" > "System32".
In "System32", go to "Tools" > "Folder options" > click on the tab, "View" > Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". Now you can begin...
Check to make sure the window that comes up has a full screen of various files. The files are in alphabetical order, which makes it easier to locate the specific file.
Find "WgaLogon.dll" and rename it "WgaLogon.dll.bak".
Create an empty copy of WgaLogon.dll:
- Right click on a blank space in System32 and select "New" > "Text Document".
- Leave the text document empty and label it "WgaLogon.dll". Press Enter (on your keyboard).
- You may get a warning from the above step that says, "If you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?". Click "Yes" on this warning.
Be ready to complete the next two steps very quickly! Find "WgaTray.exe" in "System32" and delete it. You will then have 5 seconds to find "WgaTray.exe" in the Task Manager (the next step). NOTE: If you remove the files mentioned above while you are in "Safe Mode," step #8 is unnecessary.
Immediately open Task Manager. You can do this by pressing the Ctrl, Shift, and Esc keys simultaneously, pressing the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys simultaneously, or right clicking the Taskbar and selecting "Task Manager". Click on the process tab and click end process when "WgaTray.exe" is selected. Note: If you take longer, do not panic! All that will happen is that "WgaTray.exe" will keep reapearing in the processes list (i.e. you won't be able to delete it as required). To remove the notifications after this, return to system32. You will find two files:"WgaLogon.dll.bak" (the one you renamed) and an Application Extension (0KB) called "WgaLogon.dll". Delete the Application Extension, rename "WgaLogon.dll.bak" to "WgaLogon.dll" and repeat the steps from the fifth one onwards (at a greater speed!!).
Restart your computer once you have finished. All the notification messages should be gone.

Again a Gmail Lab feature under experimental grounds called “Offline” which allows you to access email on your Google mail or Gmail account being offline means without connected to Internet.

One may argue that whats the difference in using it when you can use mail clients like Mozilla Thunderbird or Outlook? The answer is simple that you don’t have to install any other application except Google gears.

How it works?

Gmail uses Gears to download a local cache of your mail. As long as you’re connected to the network, that cache is synchronized with Gmail’s servers. When you lose your connection, Gmail automatically switches to offline mode, and uses the data stored locally instead of the information sent across the network.

Features Available

You can read messages, star and label them, and do all of the things you’re used to doing while reading your webmail online. Any messages you send while offline will be placed in your outbox and automatically sent the next time Gmail detects a connection.

Features Missing

You cannot add attachments to your messages.
Contact manager is not accessible.
Search results are limited to the local cache.

How to activate?

You will need a supported browser and Google gears installed on your system.
Go to Labs under settings tab of Gmail account.
Enable Offline Gmail and save changes.
